Last year, I planned on training for the Ironman and did a pretty good job with my training regimen.  I managed to train week up until my birthday in the middle of March.  As with all New Year’s Resolutions, some stick while others do not.  This year, I plan on staying physically fit throughout the year.  I have another big goal with my social media business, Welborn Social Media, which will hinder me from my full-on training for the Ironman.

My ultimate goal is to complete the Ironman, but I don’t think 2012 will be the year for that.  Perhaps next year it will be.  This year, I’d like to try and do one activity designed to promote my physical health every day.  One of the biggest deterrents from running was the feeling that I was doing some major damage to my knees.  Even today, months after my brother and I did our first marathon I can still feel the impact it left on my knees.

My first mission of the year is to develop an understanding of what a proper running technique is and to develop a proper playlist on my iPod so I can have some nice things to listen to while I’m training.

Would anyone like to share your New Year’s resolutions?

Have a great 2012!

Well, it looks like my running will be on hiatus for a while.  I had every intention of properly preparing for the L.A. Marathon, but it’s not going to happen because I’ve got too much on my plate.  I’m hoping to expand my business, Welborn Social Media and in order to do so, I am going to need to put all my attention and focus towards that endeavor.  This has been a great year for The Running Brothers, but I think I’m going to hang up my running shoes for the year and focus on work.

Another big event is happening in my life in the upcoming weeks as well as I will be getting my own apartment . . . my first time ever living on my own.  It’s really exciting, but also a little intimidating and overwhelming, but I’m sure I’ll get through it.  If you don’t hear from us for a while it’s because business and life is keeping me busy, but my brother and I hope to be back at it in the near future.

To our heroes . . . Thank you for following us this past year.  It has been an amazing ride and I know we will have a lot more adventures to share with you in the future.

Thanks again for all your support.

My training regimen called for 3 miles on Tuesday, 5 miles on Wednesday, 3 miles on Thursday and 6 miles on Saturday and I ran 3 miles on Monday and that was all the running I did for the week.

I’m not going to bore you with all the excuses I could come up with, but my two businesses are keeping me very busy and I’m finding it difficult to find time to fit my running in.  I know I need to make running somehting that I can’t slide on, but I do have many other priorities and things I’m trying to accomplish and running gets put on the side-burner . . . Hopefully my Running Brother can help keep me motivated.

When we started training for the 2012 L.A. Marathon, I planned on doing everything Hal Higdon’s 18-Week Marathon Training Program exactly as it was prescribed.  In week #2, I failed miserably.

This week I did no running of any kind . . . except in my weekly Sunday soccer game.  It’s dissappointing to say the least, but I do have my fair share of excuses.  My businesses have kept me extremely busy the past couple of weeks and it was Thanksgiving and we had a lot of different family activities to perform.

I’m not proud of myself, but I can feel ok with myself not having trained last week.  This week I have a lot of work today, but hopefully I can get way ahead.  Today, I’m going to work my butt of so I can be sure to resume my training for week #3.

This weeks schedule as prescribed by Hal Higdon:

  • Tuesday – 3 miles
  • Wednesday – 5 miles
  • Thursday – 3 miles
  • Saturday – 6 miles

The Los Angeles Galaxy defeated the Houston Dynamo 1-0 in front of a sellout crowd at the Home Depot Center in Carson City, CA on Sunday, November 20, 2011.  Landon Donovan scored the winning goal on an assist from Robbie Keane and David Beckham.

When David Beckham was signed by the Galaxy five years ago, I could not have been happier.  I have played soccer for over 25 years and even coached High School Soccer for seven years.  Needless to say, I love the game of soccer, but soccer has always been a secondary sport in the United States and I hoped Beckham would change that.

The Running Brothers at the 2011 MLS Cup

My brother bought us season tickets with the Los Angeles Galaxy the first year Beckham signed with the team and we have been watching Galaxy games ever since.

The atmosphere on Sunday was amazing and watching our home team take home the MLS Cup was an amazing experience . . . something I will always remember.

And the greatest part was being there with my brother.

Thank you Rocky for your amazing birthday gift five years ago.  I can’t tell you how great a gift it was.  And thank you for having the forsight to purchase the tickets in advance for the MLS Cup.  You’re an amazing brother, an outstanding person and a true friend.

My plan was to follow Hal Higdon’s Marathon Training program exactly as it was perscribed on his website.

On Tuesday, Day #1 of my training, I laced up my running shoes and prepared for a late night jog.  I downloaded the iMapMyRun+ application to my Smart Phone and ran my scheduled 2 miles . . . or so I thought.  When I woke up the next morning, I read my last blog post, The Running Brothers Are Back!!! only to realize I was supposed to run 3 miles.  As Rick Perry would say . . . Oops!

So, on the first day of training I already had veared away from my training program and on Wednesday I continued to procrastinate on my 5 mile run until I convinced myself it was ok not to do it at all.

On Thursday, my brother met up with me and we ran the 5 miles I was supposed to run on Wednesday and skipped the 3 miles I was supposed to do on Thursday entirely.

Saturday was a busy day, so Rocky and I decided to do our long run on Sunday after our soccer game.  We were tired but still managed to work up enough energy to go on our run.  Half way through the run the rain came and did not stop the rest of the way.  It was a downpour, but we continued on and completed our 8 mile run on Sunday.

Although I had the best of intentions, I failed to follow through the program completely.  But, I suppose it’s definitely better than nothing.  I plan on making up the three miles I missed last week.  So, with that in mind, here is my training schedule for Week #2.

  • Tuesday = 4 miles
  • Wednesday = 6 miles
  • Thursday = 4 miles
  • Saturday = 9 miles

*I added one mile to each day of the week to compensate for the 3 miles I missed last week.  Hopefully I’ll do a better job sticking to the training schedule this week then I did in Week #1

We took a long break from The Running Brothers because my new company, Welborn Social Media was keeping me extremely busy and my brother, Rocky has been busy as well.

A couple of weeks ago, we decided that this time we were going to train properly for a marathon. We asked our Twitter followers for the best free marathon training program and an overwhelming majority of people recommended Hal Higdon’s website – www.HalHigdon.com.

The program we chose was the Novice 2 program, an 18-week training program for the marathon.  I plan on following the program as closely as I can to the actual program.  My brother is also going to try and do the same.

Our schedule this week is to run:

  • 3 miles on Tuesday
  • 5 miles on Wednesday
  • 3 miles on Thursday
  • 8 miles on Saturday

The Los Angeles Marathon is on March 18 this year, the day I turn 31.  This time around we are going to be much more diligent in our training and can’t wait to see what kind of results we can achieve.

The day had finally come where we were going to unvail our latest Running Brothers Movie. Lacey had devoted a lot of time and effort to editing our film and we were eagerly awaiting the outcome. The whole Running Brothers clan was there along with close family and friends, including many of our heroes.

The movie began and laughs immediately ensued. Our fans erupted in laughter again and again out the outlandishness of our latest Running Brothers Movie. When all was said and done we gathered around and dissected the meaning of the film along with our favorite parts.

Each person seemed to find something they liked differently about our movie. My favorite part was invisible duck hunting.

What was your favorite part? Comment below and let us know.

Because my brother had his appendix removed the day before The San Luis Obispo Triathlon, he could not complete our second triathlon.  Fortunately, the Triathlon course took me right by the hospital my brother was staying at and I was able to complete it and still be close enough to my brother in case he needed me.

My brother was hoping he would be released on the day of the Triathlon, but unfortunately the anesthesia they gave him made it impossible for him to pee.  The doctor’s needed to make sure that he could pee before they could release him from the hospital.

When I came to visit my brother the next day, he was proudly displaying his urine for all to see with a huge grin on his face.  He was going to be released from the hospital.  After a wild and adventurous weekend The Running Brothers left San Luis Obispo with one 60th CSPA Anniversary under their belt, one completed Triathlon and one less appendix then they came with.
