What’s better than doing a Sprint Triathlon? Doing a Sprint Triathlon for 30 days straight, that’s what!

My brother and I signed up for the San Luis Obispo Triathlon at the end of July and in order to prepare for it, I have decided to do the full distance of that triathlon every single day for 30 days in order to build up my speed on the course for race day.  I will be posting my times for these triathlons from time to time so be sure to follow up on my posts. Check in to see how I am doing from time to time and give me some words of encouragement.

Just for your information, the San Luis Obispo sprint triathlon is a .5 mile swim, a 15.3 mile bike ride and a 3.1 mile run.

The actual date for the SLO Triathlon is on Sunday, July 24.  I want to give myself some rest before race day and need to include some black out dates for planned vacations which means that I will start doing these Triathlons next Monday, June 13 2011. Make sure to follow my exploits on Twitter and Facebook.

Music and Ipods have become a huge part of training these days and my brother and I have always tried to find the perfect music or podcasts to listen to on our runs.  We post this question to our Twitter followers every once in a while in order to see what other people listen to.

@TheRoad2WD responded with a blog post that he had written for his website, http://road2warriordash.wordpress.com/.  His blog post on his Ipod selection can be found here, http://road2warriordash.wordpress.com/2011/03/31/the-road-beyond-warrior-dash-its-not-my-fault-you-hate-your-boyfriend/.  It’s quite the collection of music and I would love to generate a comprehensive list of some of the best podcasts and music to listen to while training.  Feel free to add music to our list by commenting on our website.

@OrgasmicChef called us buggers!  The nerve!!!  Wait, what the heck is a “bugger?”

Since starting this website, we have learned so much.  We have learned about the “Farmer’s Blow,” “Going Gluten Free,” “The Post Race Blues and the “Chamois” (all of which you can find here, http://runningbrothers.com/category/new-vocabulary/

Now, I have heard Australian’s or New Zealander’s say “bugger” before, but I never really knew what it meant.  So, after calling us “buggers,” which I considered an offensive term, @OrgasmicChef sent us this video explaining the word.

After watching the video, I still have no idea what it means.  I think we were called jerks . . . What do you think?

Thanks to @BrittEMeeks for sending us this video.

Britt Meeks told us that we had really big egos and that we thought we were awesome.  She said we had big heads and that we should have some perspective and so she sent us this video.

The Running Brothers support our troops completely.  We love everything they do for us and while this story is amazing, I must point out a few things to show how our awesomeness is better than this amputee veteran’s awesomeness.

  1. His teams shirts were not nearly as awesome as ours.

Ok, well, I guess I could only think of one way that we were more awesome than this guy.  It’s amazing what human beings can accomplish when we work together.  Check out this video to get a glimpse into what life is all about.

As we knew would happen from time to time, my brother and I learned a new word this past week.  It all started several weeks ago when my brother and I went on one of our longest rides ever and encountered our biggest problem . . . sore butts.  We handled the ride just fine but found ourselves unbelievably uncomfortable.  We knew that we had to ask for help from our heroes to solve this problem, and so . . . we turned to Twitter.

We asked how we could solve our chaffage problem that was occurring downstairs and two of our heroes, @kelownagurl and @indianabackdoc came to the rescue to tell us about the Chamois and Chamois cream.  We thanked them for their help and then we discussed how we would use the chamois and chamois cream to solve our “problem.”  It was only then that we realized that neither of us knew what a chamois was.  So, we asked our heroes and they told us.

A chamois is the thick pad inside the bike shorts which helps to reduce chafing from the bicycle saddle.  For long rides, sometimes the chamois is not enough and many people recommended a variety of different things, but the one that resonated with us was Chamois Cream, which if I understand it correctly is a numbing agent that uses novacaine to force the rear end area to lose feeling when riding.

My brother and I certainly don’t like to have sore butts for any reason and so, with that in mind we plan on wearing our bicycle shorts . . . which contain a/the chamois and will be looking to invest in some chamois cream.

As you may remember from one of our earlier posts, http://runningbrothers.com/1057/mystery-challenge-2/, I established a Mystery Challenge for my brother, Rocky.  Unfortunately, a huge golf tournament, the Richard McKinnon 5th Annual Golf Tournament took place on the day that I had originally planned for our Mystery Challenge #2.

The new date is set for June 26 and barring any setbacks, the Mystery Challenge for my brother, Rocky will commence.  Rocky, be prepared because in 25 days my Mystery Challenge will have you testing the limits of what you thought was possible.

Anyone who is interested in participating in the Mystery Challenge is more than welcome to join us.  If you are interested in finding out more information about the Mystery Challenge leave a comment on our page and I will inform you about what it will entail.

Thanks for following us, we love you all.

Now that we have done our first marathon and that was one of my main goals. I want to focus on another one of my 0riginal goals. The 4-minute (actually 4:59) mile! I am feeling great with the marthon under my belt. We are playing soccer once a week and I have recently picked up racketball. Soccer and racketball should be building my speed and the my endurance is increasing everyday.

Aside from spending time with my brother I think the four minute mile is one of the goals that I am personally most excited about.

Starting this week I want to make it a point to attempt the 4 minute mile once a week. Wish me luck!

Our recent post about skin care may lead you to think, well as long as I wear sunscreen I am doing everything I can. Well… there are more options that I have found and I hope you can help to provide some more.

Sunscreen: Everyone knows about sunscreen. I have found that anything above SPF 30 doesn’t do much more for me than the lower SPF stuff. I really like the new spray sunscreens because they don’t run in to my eyes and dont make my hands feel slimey.

Protective Clothing– Several companies specialize in sun protection clothing. They have come along way it not just long cotton sleeves, these shirts are sophisicated. Coolibar is a company that specialized in sun pretective cloathing. I only have one Columbia shirt that is meant for sun protective athletes and I really like it, it breathes great and I look pretty good in it. But now that I know about Coolibar I think that would be a good recommendation when people ask me what I want for my birthday. Apparently, they even have swim sunprotective clothing. Us pale skinned folks thank companies like Coolibar.

Laundry Detergent– Some companies are making an additive to add to your laundry to increase your clothings sun protectiveness. CRAZY! I have never tried this but it sound interesting.

What other methods do you have for protecting your skin, can you provide our readers with some other options?
