The Running Brothers, Invisible Shoes and Shark Tank

The Running Brothers, Invisible Shoes and Shark Tank

For those of you that are raving fans of The Running Brothers you may remember a movie we did a while back titled, The Running Brothers and Their Invisible Shoes. If you remember our video we applaud you for being such an amazing individual.

We made the movie because Invisible Shoes (Xero Shoes) recognized our Running Brothers blog as one of the preeminent blogs in the running world and so they sent us a free sample of the Invisible Shoes to try out for ourselves.

Steven Sashen, the owner of Invisible Shoes, informed us via email that he would be on Shark Tank on February 1, 2013 . . . Now, the company is called Xero Shoes and is excited about the opportunity presented to them.

Did The Running Brothers Movie make the cut??? There’s only one way to find out . . . Watch the Shark Tank on February 1!

Well, it looks like my running will be on hiatus for a while.  I had every intention of properly preparing for the L.A. Marathon, but it’s not going to happen because I’ve got too much on my plate.  I’m hoping to expand my business, Welborn Social Media and in order to do so, I am going to need to put all my attention and focus towards that endeavor.  This has been a great year for The Running Brothers, but I think I’m going to hang up my running shoes for the year and focus on work.

Another big event is happening in my life in the upcoming weeks as well as I will be getting my own apartment . . . my first time ever living on my own.  It’s really exciting, but also a little intimidating and overwhelming, but I’m sure I’ll get through it.  If you don’t hear from us for a while it’s because business and life is keeping me busy, but my brother and I hope to be back at it in the near future.

To our heroes . . . Thank you for following us this past year.  It has been an amazing ride and I know we will have a lot more adventures to share with you in the future.

Thanks again for all your support.

When we started training for the 2012 L.A. Marathon, I planned on doing everything Hal Higdon’s 18-Week Marathon Training Program exactly as it was prescribed.  In week #2, I failed miserably.

This week I did no running of any kind . . . except in my weekly Sunday soccer game.  It’s dissappointing to say the least, but I do have my fair share of excuses.  My businesses have kept me extremely busy the past couple of weeks and it was Thanksgiving and we had a lot of different family activities to perform.

I’m not proud of myself, but I can feel ok with myself not having trained last week.  This week I have a lot of work today, but hopefully I can get way ahead.  Today, I’m going to work my butt of so I can be sure to resume my training for week #3.

This weeks schedule as prescribed by Hal Higdon:

  • Tuesday – 3 miles
  • Wednesday – 5 miles
  • Thursday – 3 miles
  • Saturday – 6 miles

The Los Angeles Galaxy defeated the Houston Dynamo 1-0 in front of a sellout crowd at the Home Depot Center in Carson City, CA on Sunday, November 20, 2011.  Landon Donovan scored the winning goal on an assist from Robbie Keane and David Beckham.

When David Beckham was signed by the Galaxy five years ago, I could not have been happier.  I have played soccer for over 25 years and even coached High School Soccer for seven years.  Needless to say, I love the game of soccer, but soccer has always been a secondary sport in the United States and I hoped Beckham would change that.

The Running Brothers at the 2011 MLS Cup

My brother bought us season tickets with the Los Angeles Galaxy the first year Beckham signed with the team and we have been watching Galaxy games ever since.

The atmosphere on Sunday was amazing and watching our home team take home the MLS Cup was an amazing experience . . . something I will always remember.

And the greatest part was being there with my brother.

Thank you Rocky for your amazing birthday gift five years ago.  I can’t tell you how great a gift it was.  And thank you for having the forsight to purchase the tickets in advance for the MLS Cup.  You’re an amazing brother, an outstanding person and a true friend.

We took a long break from The Running Brothers because my new company, Welborn Social Media was keeping me extremely busy and my brother, Rocky has been busy as well.

A couple of weeks ago, we decided that this time we were going to train properly for a marathon. We asked our Twitter followers for the best free marathon training program and an overwhelming majority of people recommended Hal Higdon’s website – www.HalHigdon.com.

The program we chose was the Novice 2 program, an 18-week training program for the marathon.  I plan on following the program as closely as I can to the actual program.  My brother is also going to try and do the same.

Our schedule this week is to run:

  • 3 miles on Tuesday
  • 5 miles on Wednesday
  • 3 miles on Thursday
  • 8 miles on Saturday

The Los Angeles Marathon is on March 18 this year, the day I turn 31.  This time around we are going to be much more diligent in our training and can’t wait to see what kind of results we can achieve.

Because my brother had his appendix removed the day before The San Luis Obispo Triathlon, he could not complete our second triathlon.  Fortunately, the Triathlon course took me right by the hospital my brother was staying at and I was able to complete it and still be close enough to my brother in case he needed me.

My brother was hoping he would be released on the day of the Triathlon, but unfortunately the anesthesia they gave him made it impossible for him to pee.  The doctor’s needed to make sure that he could pee before they could release him from the hospital.

When I came to visit my brother the next day, he was proudly displaying his urine for all to see with a huge grin on his face.  He was going to be released from the hospital.  After a wild and adventurous weekend The Running Brothers left San Luis Obispo with one 60th CSPA Anniversary under their belt, one completed Triathlon and one less appendix then they came with.

I had just completed the San Luis Obispo Triathlon and went to visit my brother in the hospital, the day after his appendix had to be removed.  I came into the hospital full of sweat and came running into his room to see how he was doing.  He smiled upon my arrival and I detailed every aspect of the race I had just completed.  I could see in his eyes how proud he was of me.

Once my family arrived I decided to honor my brother by bequeething him the medal that I had just received for completing the San Luis Obispo Triathlon.  He put it on and smiled.
