My brother and I are separated on the birthday of this great nation, but that didn’t stop us from having an amazing time.  My girlfriend, Cindy and I are heading out to Huntington Beach to hang out with some old friends that I have been fortunate to reconnect with, Ryan and Tami Bertka.  We took one of our heroes, Mike Nunez with us and plan on barbecuing and watching fireworks at the pier off of Main Street in Huntington Beach.

Rocky went with his girlfriend (sorry ladies, he’s taken) out to Santa Clarita to spend time with friends in that part of the world and I’m sure he’s having a great time.

Mostly, we want to wish you all a very Happy 4th of July and we hope you have a safe, wonderful and memorable day.

Thanks to @BrittEMeeks for sending us this video.

Britt Meeks told us that we had really big egos and that we thought we were awesome.  She said we had big heads and that we should have some perspective and so she sent us this video.

The Running Brothers support our troops completely.  We love everything they do for us and while this story is amazing, I must point out a few things to show how our awesomeness is better than this amputee veteran’s awesomeness.

  1. His teams shirts were not nearly as awesome as ours.

Ok, well, I guess I could only think of one way that we were more awesome than this guy.  It’s amazing what human beings can accomplish when we work together.  Check out this video to get a glimpse into what life is all about.

April Fool’s Day originated in France in the 16th century when the French leadership decided to change the day for the New Year to January 1 from April 1.  Many French citizens continued to celebrate April 1 as the day of the New Year and the French, being the fine people that they are, called those people Fool’s.  They then began inviting them to imaginary parties and developing pranks to make fun of these people.

Some of the best pranks had to do with taping paper fishes to people’s backs or putting kick me signs on people’s butts.  April Fool’s Day is a great day for pranks.  I remember once when I was a kid giving my teacher an envelope that said Rattlesnake Eggs on it . . . when she opened it, the letter rattled as if a live snake were ready to strike and my teacher fainted as a result . . . ah . . . memories.

According to an article written by Shaya Tayefe Mohajer of tThe Sacramento Bee, 7-time Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong has backed an initiative that will increase the tax on cigarettes by a dollar a pack which is projected to generate $500 million a year to research on cancer and tobacco-related illnesses.

For more information about Lance Armstrong’s involvement with an increase in the cigarette tax in California, here is a link to Mohajer’s article, http://www.sacbee.com/2011/02/28/3437712/lance-armstrong-backs-calif-tobacco.html#mi_rss=Bee%20State%20News.

Tobacco has resulted in billions of dollars in costs to the American public and it would be great to see the tax on tobacco raised to compensate for these costs.  Do you think the government should place a higher tax on tobacco related products?

A new study has shown that taking pictures of your food is more effective than keeping a diet journal.  These dieters counted calories much more effectively and were less likely to overeat.

The thinking behind this is that by photoing your meals you are immediately aware of the food that you are putting into your mouth.  Which may help to discourage unhealthy eating immediately, rather than after the fact, with those who log their meals in a journal.  This technique helps to rid dieters of guilt and helps them to become responsible about the food they are putting into their bodies.
